STHI Jentera to Hold Panel Discussion on Tax Court Reforms

JAKARTA, DDTCNews – Indonesia Jentera School of Law (Sekolah Tinggi Hukum Indonesia/STHI in Indonesian) Jentera, in collaboration with DDTC, the Indonesian Institute for Independent Judiciary (Lembaga Kajian dan Advokasi Independensi Peradilan /LeIP in Indonesian) and the Center for Indonesian Law and Policy Studies (Pusat Studi Hukum dan Kebijakan Indonesia/PSHK in Indonesian), will host a public lecture and panel discussion.

The agenda will be framed around the theme “Institutional Reform of the Tax Court to Achieve Effective and Independent Dispute Resolution: The Dutch Experience.”

The event is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 18 June 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Western Indonesian Time (Waktu Indonesia Barat/WIB in Indonesian). It will be held offline at Puri Imperium Office Plaza, Unit UG 15, Jalan Kuningan Madya Kav. 5-6, South Jakarta, 12980.

The theme is highly relevant to the current condition of Indonesia’s tax court, which is undergoing a transitional phase in the supervision of its organisational, administrative and financial affairs, namely from the Ministry of Finance (Kementerian Keuangan/Kemenkeu in Indonesian) to the Supreme Court (Mahkamah Agung/MA in Indonesian).

This transition is mandated by the Constitutional Court (Mahkamah Konstitusi/MK in Indonesian) Decision No. 26/PUU-XXI/2023. Inevitably, the shift has raised various questions, given that tax justice is a crucial element in shaping public trust.

Among the key issues are whether the transition will succeed in enhancing independence, professionalism and public confidence in the tax judiciary, and how the transition process can ensure that the changes are implemented effectively for the common good.

To address these issues, the public lecture will feature Mariken van Hilten, Vice President of the Dutch Supreme Court (Hoge Raad) and Professor of Tax Law at the University of Amsterdam, as the keynote speaker.

To further examine critical issues surrounding the transition of the tax court, the agenda will also include a panel discussion with three respondents: First, Cerah Bangun, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court’s Administrative Law Chamber. Second, Founder of DDTC Darussalam. Third, LeIP Researcher Arsil.

The panel discussion will be moderated by Dian Rositawati, Vice Chairperson for Academic Affairs at Indonesia Jentera School of Law. Interested participants may register via bit.ly/taxreform-jentera2025. (rig)
