JAKARTA, DDTCNews - The government still faces significant challenges in boosting tax revenues. Over the past 5 years, tax revenue performance has remained suboptimal, as reflected in the tax ratio, which has ranged between 8.3% and 10.4% of gross domestic product (GDP or produk domestik bruto/PDB in Indonesian). This figure remains below that of other Asean countries.
As is widely known, optimal tax revenue is a key driver of sustainable economic growth. One of the strategies pursued by the government to increase tax revenue while stimulating economic growth is the provision of tax incentives for strategic sectors.
This raises a critical question: how effective are these tax incentives? Do tax incentives truly offer a solution to improving the tax ratio, or do they instead pose challenges to efforts to accelerate economic growth?
To address these questions, the Student Association of the Taxation Study Program at Sebelas Maret University (UNS) will once again host the Annual Conference of Taxation (ACT). In its 9th edition, ACT 2025 will feature a National Seminar themed “Tax Incentives for Strategic Sectors: An Effective Strategy or a Challenge to the Tax Ratio and Economic Growth?”
The national seminar will feature prominent experts in the field of taxation, including Herlin Sulismiyati, Head of the Tax Dissemination, Services, and Public Relations Division at the Central Java II Regional Office of the Directorate General of Taxes, Manager of DDTC Fiscal Research & Advisory Denny Vissaro and Senior Tax Consultant Adista Cintya Syachnanta.
The event will be moderated by Theresya Siringoringo from the D3 Taxation Programme at UNS, with Indah Lufitasari from the same program serving as the master of ceremonies (MC).
Open to the public free of charge, the seminar will be held in a hybrid format (online and offline) on Sunday, 22 June 2025, starting at 9:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (Waktu Indonesia Barat/WIB in Indonesian) until completion.
