LONDON, DDTCNews - DDTC has again garnered accomplishments, both in the national and international arena. Most recently, DDTC won the Indonesia Tax Dispute Firm of the Year in the event ITR Asia-Pacific Awards 2024. The award was conferred by the International Tax Review (ITR), a London, UK-based international institution based.

Attending on behalf of the Founders of DDTC Darussalam and Danny Septriadi, DDTC Consulting Managing Partner David Hamzah Damian received the award in person on the peak night of the ITR APAC Tax Awards 2024 held at the Leonardo Royal Hotel Tower Bridge in London, UK, Wednesday (18/9/2024).

It is safe to say that DDTC’s title as the Indonesia Tax Dispute Firm of the Year is well-deserved. The ITR Editor at Legal Benchmarking Group Thomas Baker remarked that winner was selected based on the company’s success in resolving tax disputes across various sectors with an innovative approach.

“The assessment or research process by the ITR has been undertaken for a considerable amount of time and entails many parties,” said Baker.

Darussalam expresses his appreciation towards the award conferred to DDTC. He maintains that this award is the tangible embodiment of the trust gained from both taxpayers and the authorities in the professional work conducted by DDTC.

“This award fosters joy and instills pride in all of DDTC’s professionals," states Darussalam.

In line with Darussalam, Danny Septriadi also enthusiastically embraces the victory over the Indonesia Tax Dispute Firm of the Year award. He hopes that DDTC may continue to render the best services for clients in resolving tax disputes.

In parallel, David Hamzah Damian, who attended the ITR APAC Tax Awards 2024 award night, claims that the Indonesia Tax Dispute Firm of the Year award is earned through an extensive journey. This award is the satisfactory outcome of the company’s 17-year endeavours in participating in the national and international tax landscape.

"Being a tax practitioner, in this case, in the field of dispute and litigation, is a noble profession. In this line of profession, we defend taxpayers in terms of their rights. No over-taxation or under-taxation should be allowed,” claims David.

Tax Dispute Handling at DDTC

The Indonesia Tax Dispute Firm of the Year award validates the approach undertaken by DDTC thus far in handling tax dispute cases, i.e., by integrating empirical experience, theoretical concepts, legal interpretation and comprehension of business transactions. Moreover, DDTC also gives precedence to the credential aspect to establish trust, both for taxpayers and tax authorities.

In providing services, DDTC’s professionals are required to conduct an in-depth and assessment of applicable legal values. DDTC’s professionals are armed with an in-depth understanding of a diverse array of multidisciplinary literature.

“This ultimately results in the thorough and contextual legal interpretation by DDTC’s professionals,” asserts David.

The handling of tax dispute cases is also intensified by referring to comprehensive legal references in the  Perpajakan DDTC platform, including statutory laws and regulations, regulations issued by government agencies as well as decisions in preceding cases. DDTC’s professionals are also bolstered by a robust internal database system.

DDTC sets up a sophisticated system or internal database to record distinct past projects as well as the lessons learned. This allows a convenient and expeditious knowledge-sharing process.

In establishing the system, DDTC employes cutting-edge technology, such as data-tagging technology.

“This technology facilitates DDTC’s professionals to search for and develop former arguments, enriching the justification of the cases we address,” declares David.

In addition to a sophisticated and qualified internal system, DDTC is also sustained by numerous esteemed professionals in their areas of expertise. Litigators at DDTC possess both qualified technical and non-technical capabilities.

In addition, DDTC’s professionals also exhibit technical skills in analysing regulations and legislation, the ability to search for authoritative supporting literature and data and the ability to defend arguments before the tax authorities.

However, technical skills alone are insufficient. DDTC also provides its professionals with non-technical skills, including the ability to convince prominent stakeholders, such as the tax authorities or judges in the Tax Court.

On another note, most DDTC’s professionals are currently licensed as tax lawyers. As many as 34 DDTC’s professionals hold ADIT (Advance Diploma in International Tax) international certification from the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT), UK.

In terms of human capital development, DDTC has also implemented multi-level mentoring. This system, adds David, allows the optimum implementation of the culture established by the C-suite for all human resources.

During its 17 years of operation, DDTC has engaged with clients from various industrial sectors, ranging from the extractive industry, mining, minerals, coal, gold, nickel to consumer-goods industries, such as electronics and cosmetics.

Based on the country of origin of their principals, a significant number of DDTC's clients are Multinational Companies (MNCs) from developed countries, for instance, the United States, Japan, China, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. At the domestic level, DDTC is also proficient in handling conglomerate companies.

As a point of interest, ITR is a global news and analysis service provider that delivers practical information on three main areas, including direct tax, indirect tax and transfer pricing.

This award is the result of the ranking conducted by ITR. On account of independent research and coverage of the world’s leading tax firms and practitioners, ITR seeks to accurately compare tax firms and practitioners with their peers.

In addition to winning the Indonesia Tax Dispute Firm of the Year, DDTC has also been dubbed the Pro Bono Firm of the Year for the Asia Pacific region. In total, DDTC is listed as a nominee in twelve other categories in the ITR Asia-Pacific Tax Awards 2024. Of the twelve categories, DDTC was included in five Regional Award categories at the Asia Pacific level.

In addition, of the twelve categories, four are in the Individual Award category. For the Individual Award category, the Founder of DDTC Darussalam was nominated for the Tax Practice Leader of the Year. (sap)
