Purbaya Opens Option to Delay Marketplace Tax Again
JAKARTA, DDTCNews - The government may once again postpone the collection of Article 22 Income Tax by marketplace providers, which is scheduled to take effect on 1 November 2026.
Minister of Finance, Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, said the implementation of Article 22 Income Tax collection by marketplace providers under MoF Reg. 37/2025 could be postponed again if Indonesia's economic conditions deteriorate relatively in the coming months.
"It was deferred before, wasn't it? Later, if [economic] conditions worsen, we can defer it again, but for now [it is deferred] until October first," he told members of the media at the Ministry of Finance Office, Wednesday (12/8/2026).
The policy of Article 22 Income Tax collection by marketplace providers was originally scheduled to take effect on 1 August 2026. However, the government postponed its implementation by 3 months until 31 October 2026, with it set to come into force again on 1 November 2026.
Purbaya dismissed the notion that this postponement was due to Indonesia's economy being sluggish. According to him, the deferral of the designation of marketplace providers as Article 22 Income Tax collection agents on income derived by online merchants (sellers) was intended to ease the burden on both sellers and the general public.
"It is not [because the economy is still poor]; we want you to have more money to spend; something along those lines," he said.
Purbaya explained that the government would continue to review economic conditions first before implementing the Article 22 Income Tax collection policy by marketplaces. He even aspired to drive economic growth to the 6% level by the end of this year.
"Our growth is 5.29% [in Q2/2026]. I wish to push it towards 6% by the end of the year," said the state treasurer. (rig)
