Bimo Promotes Cross-Border Tax Collection at BRITACOF Forum
JAKARTA, DDTCNews - The Belt and Road Initiative Tax Administration Cooperation Mechanism (BRITACOM) officially held the 7th Belt and Road Initiative Tax Administration Cooperation Forum (BRITACOF) today, Tuesday (13/10/2026).
BRITACOM is a non-profit organisation that facilitates cooperation among tax authorities of jurisdictions participating in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). BRITACOF is the official annual event organised by BRITACOM.
"Our theme this year is Smart Taxation, Shared Prosperity. This forum is a shared platform for building a robust and resilient tax system," said Director General of Taxes Bimo Wijayanto in his opening remarks.
This year, Indonesia has the opportunity to host BRITACOF, held from 13–15 October 2026. There are 4 main agenda items at this year's BRITACOF, including the launch of the Tax Administration Product Portfolio (TAPP) 2.0.
Further items include the Taxpayer Service Product Portfolio (TASP) 2.0; strengthening international cooperation through training, exchange of best practices and multilateral collaboration; as well as dialogue to fulfil the needs of the business community.
"Through this forum, we can learn from one another among 38 countries and 30 international organisations. We can mutually improve tax administration and services to taxpayers. The business community can also gain certainty in fulfilling their tax obligations," said Bimo.
Further, Bimo said that one technology tax authorities need to harness in the current era is artificial intelligence (AI). In his view, the presence of AI enables tax authorities to manage tax compliance risks more efficiently.
"AI enables us to process large volumes of data rapidly and handle compliance accurately. This allows us to allocate human resources to more complex issues, whilst also accelerating service delivery to taxpayers," said Bimo.
However, the use of AI also needs to be accompanied by improvements in the relationship between taxpayers and tax authorities. To achieve this, Bimo continued, Indonesia has launched a cooperative compliance programme.
"Rather than relying solely on audits and enforcement, we are building partnerships based on transparency, timely communication and mutual trust," he said.
From the forum, Bimo also expressed his hope for the realisation of cross-border tax collection cooperation among BRITACOM members to combat tax evasion practices involving the transfer of assets overseas.
"Through secure and efficient channels for cooperating on tax collection, we can uphold the fairness of the tax system. Everyone must pay their fair share of tax, wherever their assets are held," he said. (rig)
