Economy Remains Fragile, Purbaya Again Delays Marketplace Tax
JAKARTA, DDTCNews — Minister of Finance, Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, has decided to postpone the collection of Article 22 Income Tax on merchants on marketplaces.
Purbaya said the Ministry of Finance (MoF) will issue a minister of finance regulation to postpone the implementation of Article 22 Income Tax stipulated under MoF Regulation (MoF Reg.) No. 37/2025.
"The marketplace tax will be postponed. It will not come into effect this August," he claimed on Wednesday (5/8/2026).
The collection of Article 22 Income Tax will be deferred until economic conditions and purchasing power improve. According to Purbaya, current economic growth is not yet robust enough to support the collection of the said tax.
"We are deferring it until economic conditions and purchasing power improve. Growth of 5.29% [in Q2/2026] is not strong enough. We expect a higher figure," said Purbaya.
According to Purbaya, the collection of Article 22 Income Tax by marketplace operators will be implemented once the economy has grown more strongly than at present.
"We are also looking at other variables, such as consumer confidence and retail purchases. We will issue a PMK [to postpone]," said Purbaya.
For information, the Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) has appointed four marketplace operators to collect I Article 22 Income Tax at a rate of 0.5% on the turnover of domestic merchants. The four marketplace operators in question are Tokopedia, Shopee, Lazada and Blibli.
Article 22 Income Tax collected may be claimed by merchants as a tax credit or as part of the settlement of final income tax. (rig)
