JAKARTA, DDTCNews - The government is still thoroughly preparing the construction plans, governance and operations of the Indonesia International Financial Centre (IIFC).

Danantara CEO, Rosan Roeslani, stated that all preparations are aimed at ensuring Indonesia's financial centre has credibility and is capable of attracting major investors when it begins operations as well as being managed independently.

"This requires sound and thorough planning to enable the IIFC to earn the trust of investors and family offices, of which we once invited 110 [parties]," he said, as quoted on Monday (17/8/2026).

Rosan stated that the IIFC will be constructed in 2 locations, namely Jakarta and Bali. He revealed that the concept and construction requirements for Indonesia's financial centre are being prepared by Danantara together with the Minister of Finance.

He explained that Danantara's role is primarily to develop or construct the infrastructure, facilities and means required by the IIFC, for example, buildings and supporting facilities to enable the IIFC to operate.

"We are currently preparing this together with the Minister of Finance. As for us at Danantara, we are essentially only the builder of the infrastructure, such as the buildings and other means," said Rosan, who also serves as Minister of Investment and Downstream Industries.

Rosan further affirmed that the IIFC must be established with independent governance. This aspect is crucial to ensure that investors and family offices are confident that business decisions, dispute resolution and financial sector supervision at the IIFC are not easily influenced by particular interests.

In other words, the government wishes for the IIFC to operate on the principles of institutional and judicial independence. The IIFC will be managed by a number of institutions, including an advisory board, a management body, a financial services supervisory body, a court under the Supreme Court (Mahkamah Agung/MA in Indonesian) and an arbitration body.

"All aspects of the IIFC must indeed be independent; in terms of management and its court as well. Even though it works in conjunction with the Supreme Court, the judicial proceedings must also be independent and the financial services authority must be independent too," said Rosan.

In the course of preparing the IIFC, the government has already explored the interest of investors and family offices in Asia to assess the potential for their investment. However, Rosan has not yet been able to map the scale of investment potentially entering, as discussions are still at an early stage.

"The plan is that [investment from] family offices will constitute the largest share and we have received a great deal of input from the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), as their framework is also excellent," Rosan added.

It should be noted that the establishment of the IIFC is a mandate under Law 4/2023 as amended by Law 4/2026 on the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector (Pengembangan dan Penguatan Sektor Keuangan/P2SK). The objective is to realise sustainable economic growth and to promote the deepening and diversification of the national economy through effective contribution to the financial sector. (rig)
