JAKARTA, DDTCNews — The government has stated that it has submitted a Presidential Letter to the House of Representatives (DPR) regarding the proposed candidate for Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI).

In the said Presidential Letter, the Minister of State Secretary, Prasetyo Hadi, said the government is proposing Destry Damayanti to become BI Governor, replacing Perry Warjiyo, who has withdrawn from office.

"[The candidate is] a sole candidate, one name, namely Destry Damayanti," said Prasetyo on Monday (10/8/2026).

In addition to submitting the Presidential Letter proposing a candidate for BI Governor, the government has also submitted a Presidential Letter proposing a candidate for senior deputy governor to replace Destry, as well as a candidate for deputy governor.

"A replacement candidate for senior deputy governor and a replacement candidate for deputy governor, as the number has been reduced by one," said Prasetyo.

On another note, Perry withdrew from his position as BI Governor on 25 July 2026. The said withdrawal was announced by the government on 27 July 2026.

To fill the said vacancy, Destry is currently serving as acting BI Governor until a new governor is elected.

In response to the said withdrawal, Commission XI of the House of Representatives stated that it is ready to conduct a fit and proper test for the BI Governor candidate proposed by the government.

"We will carry out our constitutional function in the fit and proper test process for the BI Governor candidate objectively, professionally, and with the interests of the nation and state at the forefront," said Deputy Chairperson of House Commission XI, Fauzi Amro, last month. (rig)
