Perry Warjiyo Steps Down as Bank Indonesia Governor
JAKARTA, DDTCNews - Perry Warjiyo has officially withdrawn from his position as the Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI). The resignation letter was received by President Prabowo Subianto on 25 July 2026.
Minister of State Secretary, Prasetyo Hadi, said that Prabowo had accepted the resignation and conveyed his appreciation for Perry's service during his tenure leading the central bank. The government will subsequently follow up on Perry's resignation according to the mechanism set out in the BI Law as amended by the Law concerning the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector (Pengembangan dan Penguatan Sektor Keuangan/P2SK Law in Indonesian).
"The President has accepted the resignation of Mr Perry Warjiyo, of course with the highest gratitude and appreciation for his dedication over approximately 7 years leading Bank Indonesia," said Prasetyo on Monday (27/7/2026).
Prasetyo explained that the next stage following the resignation is the issuance of a presidential decree regarding the honourable dismissal of Perry Warjiyo from his position as BI Governor. Pursuant to the provisions under the BI Law, the role of BI Governor will temporarily be carried out by BI Senior Deputy Governor, Destry Damayanti, as acting governor.
Meanwhile, Destry stated that Perry withdrew voluntarily for personal reasons. Her designation as acting BI Governor was implemented at the BI Board of Governors' meeting on 26 July 2026.
Destry affirmed that the change in leadership will not affect the performance of BI's duties and authority. The central bank, she added, will continue to carry out its mandate to maintain the stability of the rupiah, preserve payment system stability and contribute to maintaining financial system stability to support sustainable economic growth.
"Bank Indonesia will always ensure the continuity of its duties and authority to achieve rupiah stability, maintain payment system stability and contribute to maintaining financial system stability in support of sustainable economic growth," she claimed.
In addition, BI will continue to uphold sound and professional institutional governance and strengthen synergy and coordination with the government in carrying out their respective duties and authority. (dik)
