DGT Accelerates Supervision and Audits to Reduce Tax Shortfall
JAKARTA, DDTCNews - The Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) continues to deploy its officers, particularly account representatives (ARs), to enhance compliance supervision and conduct audits across their respective working areas.
Director General of Taxes, Bimo Wijayanto, said these measures are aimed at optimising tax revenue through to the end of December 2026.
"Our ARs already know what needs to be done. I have asked that everything be wrapped up in the final 3 months; the same goes for auditors. Outstanding [debts] that can be executed through to the end of December will be accelerated. Law enforcement will follow suit," he said, as quoted on Friday (16/10/2026).
Bimo stated that the DGT already has its own system and framework for collecting tax revenue. This governance structure is being implemented to ensure that this year's target or outlook is fulfilled.
He noted that tax officers, such as ARs and tax audit officials, have been carrying out their functions by applying different treatments to taxpayers. Treatment is assigned based on each taxpayer's compliance profile, risk level and behaviour.
"We already have a system that specifies what each actor [tax officer] does. Each actor has a set number of taxpayers, and we can see what treatment those taxpayers received in the previous year, what treatment is being applied this year and how effective it has been," he explained.
Further, Bimo continued, the DGT is also issuing measured tax refunds, using a reliable database and improving tax services. This series of activities is expected to maintain public trust and boost revenue in the remaining 3 months of the year.
This year, the DGT has been set a target of collecting IDR2,357.7 trillion in tax revenue. However, based on the current outlook, tax revenue is projected to reach only IDR2,310.8 trillion, representing a tax shortfall of IDR46.9 trillion.
"We will therefore truly uphold the dignity of the organisation, underpinned by a robust database and measured execution," said Bimo. (rig)
