Director General of Taxes Proposes Delay to DGT Officials Reshuffle

JAKARTA, DDTCNews - Director General of Taxes, Bimo Wijayanto, has revealed there were a number of "unusual" names in the reshuffle process involving hundreds of echelon II and echelon III officials at the Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) last week.

Bimo said that rotation of positions is commonplace within the Ministry of Finance (MoF). However, he stated that the inauguration process this time needs to be postponed or cancelled for a number of employees who did not undergo the required assessment, talent management or examination processes.

"The rotation was our proposal, but there were indeed some unusual names who did not go through the assessment or talent management process. That is what prompted me and the Director General of Customs and Excise [Djaka Budhi Utama] to ask for the process to be postponed or cancelled for the time being," he said, as quoted on Thursday (17/9/2026).

Bimo said that the inclusion of names of employees who had not undergone the requisite training and evaluation processes for a promotion or change of position could give rise to unfairness. He added that it could also send a poor signal to other employees who had followed the full series of processes from the outset.

In line with this, Bimo together with Djaka had requested Minister of Finance Suahasil Nazara to postpone or cancel the reshuffle process for officials that did not comply with the proper procedure.

"The signal would not be good for the other personnel who had worked hard to go through the assessment, take the tests and participate in talent management," he said.

According to Bimo, Suahasil agreed that the transfer and promotion of employees within the MoF should proceed in accordance with the proper procedure. It is therefore hoped that bureaucratic reform within the MoF will progress well.

"Mr Suahasil has affirmed his commitment to implementing talent management and carrying out bureaucratic reform to the best possible standard," he said.

Bimo also stated that officials whose names appeared on the reshuffle list without having undergone the selection process would have their rotation cancelled and would be returned to their original positions. Meanwhile, employees whose processes complied with the applicable provisions would continue to be rotated.

"Those who did not fulfil the requirements have been cancelled; yes, [returned to their original positions], whilst the others remain as planned," he said.

For information, the reshuffle of hundreds of echelon II and echelon III officials within the MoF was carried out on Thursday (10/9/2026), before Purbaya was removed from his position as the minister of finance. The officials affected by the reshuffle included those from DGT. (dik)
