New Finance Minister: APINDO Urges Tax Policy Certainty
JAKARTA, DDTCNews - The Employers' Association of Indonesia (Asosiasi Pengusaha Indonesia/APINDO in Indonesian) hopes that the new minister of finance will continue to uphold the credibility of fiscal management, certainty in policy direction, and the confidence of businesses and investors alike.
APINDO Chairperson, Shinta W Kamdani, said that the business community requires certainty in government policy amid the change of finance minister. Several policies highlighted by APINDO include taxation, customs and incentives.
"For the business world, what matters is not merely the change of individual, but the consistency and quality of policy following the transition," she said on Tuesday (15/9/2026).
In general, Shinta viewed the change of minister of finance from Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa to Suahasil Nazara as part of the authority and prerogative of President Prabowo Subianto in ensuring the effectiveness of governance.
She also noted that Suahasil is not a novel figure in the management of national fiscal policy. Suahasil has extensive experience at the Ministry of Finance and is therefore expected to provide continuity and important institutional understanding of state fiscal management.
Shinta considered the current economic situation to still be fraught with uncertainty. For that reason, she continued, the business community hopes that the leadership transition will not give rise to excessively abrupt changes in policy direction.
She noted that the state budget needs to be managed prudently and sustainably, whilst at the same time serving effectively as an instrument to maintain purchasing power, encourage investment, increase productivity and strengthen the real sector.
"For businesses, predictability is also of great importance, particularly with regard to taxation policy, customs, investment incentives, government expenditure and various fiscal policies that have a direct impact on costs and business decisions," she stressed.
In line with this, Shinta continued, APINDO hopes that any policy changes will be made in a measured manner and communicated clearly. Adequate space for dialogue is also needed by the business community to increase certainty in planning investment and expansion.
She added that the challenges facing the minister of finance are considerable, as the government needs to finance various priority programmes whilst simultaneously maintaining fiscal space and the credibility of the state budget. In addition, market and investor confidence must also be safeguarded.
"The business community hopes that revenue policy will not be solely oriented towards short-term revenue increases, but will continue to take into account the competitiveness and capacity of the productive sector to grow," said Shinta. (rig)
