Suahasil as the Minister of Finance: House Flags Revenue Homework
JAKARTA, DDTCNews - The House of Representatives (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat/DPR in Indonesian) has welcomed the inauguration of Suahasil Nazara as the new Minister of Finance, replacing Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa.
Deputy Chairperson of the House Budget Committee (Badan Anggaran/Banggar in Indonesian), Wihadi Wiyanto, said the inauguration reinforces market confidence whilst simultaneously stabilising the national financial system.
"We are confident that Mr Suahasil is an economist capable of addressing the current situation," said Wihadi, as quoted on Tuesday (15/9/2026).
Wihadi expressed hope that Suahasil would be able to establish a stronger financial system and boost market confidence. He noted that both aspects need to be maintained in order to support national economic growth.
However, Wihadi noted that Suahasil still has outstanding work on the state revenue side, principally regarding tax receipts as well as customs and excise.
"How to manage our revenue system, which must be firmly anchored within the state budget (APBN), is what we are hoping Mr Suahasil will be capable of delivering," said Wihadi.
Separately, Deputy Chairperson of House Commission XI, Fauzi Amro, said Suahasil has extensive experience as a fiscal policy manager, making him well-suited for appointment as minister of finance.
Fauzi expressed hope that Suahasil would be able to maintain the continuity of fiscal reform whilst also ensuring the effectiveness of budget utilisation.
"Our expectation is naturally that better change will occur, that a financial transition will take place, and that quality spending will be achieved," said Fauzi. (dik)
