DGT Ready to Support Tax Research via Micro Data
JAKARTA, DDTCNews - The Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) has committed to supporting research activities through the provision of micro data.
Director General of Taxes, Bimo Wijayanto, said that micro data is necessary so that research on taxation does not focus solely on macro aspects.
"We will open access to certain micro data for researchers whilst maintaining data confidentiality and security. I am confident this will enable tax research to go further beyond the macro aspects," he said on Wednesday (16/9/2026).
Speaking at the International Tax Conference 2026, Bimo noted that certain micro data could be made available to support tax research, provided it does not contain taxpayer identification.
With adequate micro data, he continued, researchers would be able to conduct more detailed analysis and develop simulations that provide an understanding of various scenarios.
"Researchers can carry out more detailed analysis and develop simulations to better understand the potential impact of various scenarios, policies, and administration," said Bimo.
Bimo acknowledged that not every piece of research can be fully implemented into policy. Nevertheless, research remains necessary to support efforts to identify problems and broaden the range of policy options available.
"Translating research into policy requires legal, fiscal and administrative considerations that go beyond the scope of a single paper. But that is precisely where the important role of research lies. Research helps us identify problems, question underlying assumptions and expand the range of options that policymakers can consider," said Bimo. (rig)
