BOGOR, DDTCNews - Director General of Taxes Bimo Wijayanto is actively conducting reviews of the 34 regional offices of the Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) spread across various regions.

Bimo said the monitoring activities aim to ensure that the performance of each DGT regional office remains on track and is capable of meeting the revenue targets set for this year.

"In 2026, I and the directors, the board of directors (BOD) at the head office, are dividing ourselves evenly across the 34 regional offices to monitor them one by one," he said at a ministry of finance (MoF) media gathering, quoted on Friday (2/10/2026).

Through these monitoring activities, Bimo wishes to ensure that all DGT regional offices understand the characteristics of taxpayers as well as the sectors that contribute significantly to revenue in their respective regions.

In addition, regional offices have also been requested to understand the behaviour and compliance levels of taxpayers in their areas. By mapping these various aspects, Bimo said, regional offices will find it easier to devise strategies to optimise revenue potential whilst simultaneously improving compliance.

"So we understand them one by one, including by actor; who the officers are, for example, the account representatives handling taxpayers A, B, C, D and so forth. Such discipline is something we truly maintain," said Bimo.

Bimo explained that the efforts of all tax officials to fulfil revenue targets and improve taxpayer compliance are also supported by an increasingly sophisticated, integrated and digitalised tax system.

However, he continued, this is not sufficient on its own, as it must be accompanied by human resources that are disciplined, accountable, high-quality and competent in carrying out their duties.

"We are strengthening our tax administration capacity to be disciplined in its execution and attentive to micro-level accountability. Monitoring performance per regional office is straightforward because the tax base has already been identified, the interventions carried out by officers in supervision, audit and so forth have also been identified. It is simply a matter of how to optimise them," said Bimo.

As at 31 August 2026, tax revenue had been realised at IDR1,409.0 trillion, representing growth of 24.1% compared with the same period last year of IDR1,135.4 trillion.

This tax revenue performance is equivalent to 59.8% of the target set in the 2026 state budget of IDR2,357.7 trillion. However, the government projects that tax revenue this year will experience a shortfall of approximately IDR46.9 trillion, meaning that the realisation will reach only IDR2,310.9 trillion, or 98% of the 2026 state budget target.
