DGT Prepares 4 Strategic Measures to Strengthen Tax Centres
JAKARTA, DDTCNews — The Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) has stated that tax centres play a crucial role in bridging the relationship between the tax authority, academics and the public.
Director General of Taxes, Bimo Wijayanto, said tax centres can assist the tax authority in reaching and providing education to taxpayers in general.
"The assistance and support of tax centres is greatly needed to maintain public trust and to raise public awareness of their tax obligations," he said at the 2026 National Tax Centre Forum held today, Wednesday (26/8/2026).
According to Bimo, the tax system cannot be sustained by supervision and law enforcement alone. Voluntary taxpayer compliance is also necessary to establish a robust tax system and a sound fiscal position.
However, efforts to improve such voluntary compliance cannot be undertaken by the DGT alone. Tax centres are needed to raise public awareness of tax obligations through education.
"Ladies and gentlemen [from the tax centres], who can assist us with broad reach, and with the strategic network of the DGT and tax centres, will certainly intensify tax education for all members of society. The potential is enormous because tax centres can reach university students, entrepreneurs and communities in your localities," said Bimo.
To support the development of tax centres going forward, the DGT plans to pursue 4 strategic measures. First, the DGT will clarify governance, partnership models as well as supervision and coordination with tax centres.
Second, the DGT will develop a tax centre application as a means of reporting, data management, monitoring and evaluation. Third, the DGT will allow for research collaboration with tax centres.
Fourth, the DGT will facilitate the strengthening of networks between tax centres to enable the replication of innovations and best practices across various regions.
"At present, under the DGT Strategic Plan 2025-2029, we are focused on the revitalisation of tax intermediaries, of which tax centres are an integral part," said Bimo.
Through these various measures, Bimo hopes that tax centres will have increasingly strong institutional foundations and better governance.
"We hope this forum can produce inputs and recommendations that can be promptly implemented to strengthen the tax centre ecosystem and tax policy throughout Indonesia," he said. (rig)
