Purbaya Targets 23% Tax Growth in 2026 Without Rate Hikes
JAKARTA, DDTCNews - The government is seeking to sustain tax revenue growth at 23% without raising tax rates or imposing new taxes.
Growth of 23% is required to meet the tax revenue target of IDR2,357.7 trillion set under the 2026 State Budget (anggaran penerimaan dan belanja negara/APBN in Indonesian).
"Hopefully, we can hold tax revenue at 23% to improve our income. I am confident that with greater efficiency among tax officers, improvements to the coretax system, and better procedures, we can achieve this without raising tax rates or creating new taxes," said Minister of Finance, Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, as quoted on Wednesday (8/7/2026).
Without these various efforts, tax revenue this year would grow by 20.5%, with a realisation of IDR2,310.8 trillion, or 98% of the set target.
At present, revenue realisation in the first half of 2026 has been recorded at IDR1,035.7 trillion, or 43.9% of the tax target under the 2026 State Budget.
Tax revenue in the first half of 2026 still managed to grow by 24.6%, bolstered by increased economic activity, higher wage payments and take-home pay (THP) as well as rising commodity prices.
Beyond that, Purbaya stated that the 24.6% growth was also supported by extra effort from tax officers.
"Tax officers have been requested to work harder to increase tax collection. It may not yet be as ideal as many people envisage, but there has been a significant improvement. We will strive to do even better going forward without raising rates," said Purbaya. (dik)
