JAKARTA, DDTCNews - The Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) has once again appointed electronic commerce (e-commerce) operators as VAT collection agents for e-commerce.

On this occasion, the DGT appointed 7 e-commerce operators as VAT collection agents, namely Strava, Inc., Envato Pty Ltd, Envato Elements Pty Ltd, The Nielsen Norman Group, Inc., Kling AI Pte. Ltd., Law School Admission Council, Inc. and PLAUD LLC.

"In May 2026, the DGT once again revised the list of e-commerce VAT collection agents by appointing 7 new collection agents. This measure constitutes part of the DGT's efforts to keep pace with the development of the digital economy," the DGT wrote in its official statement on Friday (26/6/2026).

The e-commerce operators appointed have diverse business models, ranging from fitness services, digital content and education, to artificial intelligence (AI). This reflects the ever-broadening scope of e-commerce VAT collection.

"The DGT will continue to monitor developments in technology and digital business models to ensure that tax obligations are fulfilled effectively, fairly and with legal certainty for entrepreneurs," said Inge Diana Rismawanti, Director of Tax Dissemination, Service and Public Relations of the DGT.

With the appointment in May 2026, there are now 271 e-commerce operators appointed by the DGT to collect VAT. Of that number, 233 e-commerce operators have been recorded as actively collecting and remitting e-commerce VAT.

In the period from January to May 2026, the total e-commerce VAT collected was recorded at IDR4.88 trillion.

On another note, e-commerce operators introducing foreign digital products into Indonesia will be appointed as e-commerce VAT collection agents if their transaction value with Indonesian buyers exceeds IDR600 million per year or IDR50 million per month; and/or have a traffic volume in Indonesia exceeding 12,000 per year or 1,000 per month.

Once appointed, e-commerce operators are required to collect VAT at 12% multiplied by the alternative tax base of 11/12 of the selling price of foreign digital products sold in Indonesia. (dik)
